Thing #10: One Stop Shopping

I have to admit (although I am sure that no one will be surprised) that I did not know what an RSS feed was.  But now that I do, I think it could be immensely useful.  I didn't realize that I was already using an RSS feed on my blog when I subscribed to other classmates' blogs.  I had seen their updated posts, but I didn't know how they really got there.

When I clicked on the link to set up an account for Google Reader, it was really easy to add a site's URL to my list that I would like to follow.   I added a friend's blog (who I had already been following) and the Pioneer Woman's blog.  My five technology classmate's were already on my Google Reader list.  Hence, my enlightenment on the reason why I was already able to see their updated posts!

I think using an RSS feed like Google reader would save time for personal use and for classroom use.  Instead of having to click on a blog from a bookmark or favorites' list, I can "one-stop shop" from Google Reader.  If using a classroom blog, this would be a helpful tool to quickly see if someone had posted a question or reply to a blog post.

I found a site that is the "100 Best RSS Feeds to Follow Science."  Since science is my thing, this is all the current research at my fingertips.  Technology is truly amazing.  Here is the link if anyone else is interested.

In closing, thinking about science made me think about Albert Einstein.  So I will close with a quote from him:

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.
